THE AIR ULTEM CAMPAIGN

SCOPE: Creative strategy and development, Design, Copywriting, Marketing, Art Direction, Video Production, 3D Design, Post Production, Photography.

In January 2023, RAWSPARK was tasked with ideating, developing and creating a launch campaign for OWNDAYS’ new product line, the AIR ULTEM, a collection of fashionable but light, durable, flexible spectacle frames.  

 

The Objective: Come up with a campaign that showcases the unique features of the AIR Ultem – its flexibility, lightweight, comfort, durability and range of fashionable designs, due for launch in April.

The Delivery: One 30-sec spot, Still Photographs, Product 3D Renders and Display ads, loaded out-of-home and digitally, worldwide.

So we being the rulebreakers we are said: “Let’s not do lifestyle ads.  Instead, “LET’S SHOOT A MUSIC VIDEO with dancers, pulling off their most flexible, most intricate dance moves on the floor”, with AIR Ultem, in AIR Ultems.  Victoria and Scott were some of the most talented names in contemporary, Jazz and Hip-hop, so we worked with them to choreograph an entire movement sequence.  We wrote a simple direct narrative, and even paid a few homages to pop-culture references from films like “Beetlejuice” and music videos like Michael Jackson’s “Black or White”.  We left the rest to choreographed camera work, spatial design and 3D modelling (yes those glasses were modelled from scratch).

The results?  Well feast your eyes and tell us!

THE STORY BEHIND THE TAGLINE

“Flex It Your Way” came about with a play on one of the key USPs of the AIR Ultem glasses – flexibility, that allows people to flex their glasses however and any way they want.

THE CONCEPT

To showcase the USPs of the product in a dynamic and vibrant fashion, we brought the concept to life by creating parallels between the product and the flexibility of Jazz dancers. The result was a music video inspired ad that utilised a flexible Jazz and Hip-hop routine to perform moves that were doable on the glasses themselves. This was achieved through the use of dynamic camera movement, tracking shots and rolls.

Two sets of stills were created: one that resembles the choreography to stay true to the campaign’s concept, and another that featured a trendy and stylish treatment to establish a contrast between the two photo sets.

AIR ULTEM IN 3D

The 3D model of the glasses is measured and scaled to match the actual AIR Ultem glasses before undergoing a texturing process using a 3D software, Maya. Subsequently, the glasses were animated to replicate the movements of the choreography, ensuring a seamless presentation in the ad.

We scoured the realms of social media and Google (unfortunately, ChatGPT didn’t exist back then) in our quest to find the perfect dancers who could bring the concept to life. Our extensive search journey ultimately led us to Victoria, a skilled Hip-hop & Contemporary dancer, and Scott, a talented Street & Hip-hop dancer.

MUSIC & SCORE

You can’t make a dance music video without having dance music.
Our music and sound designers composed and arranged an entire moombahton and hip-hop inspired track from scratch to create the base of what our dancers choreographed, and to underscore the entire ad.
